"TRASH 10/19/2009 - 5.50 PM"
by Julia Kurz, Germany

In her solo show the artist presents 700 megabytes of random data taken from the trash bin of her computer before deleting it. One can find tons of text and picture material but there are also music files, notes and other data, uncensored and authentic. Everybody welcome!

On October 19. 2009 I emptied my trash can on my computer. Before I pushed the button I burned 700 megabytes of it on a CD.

I like the idea of 'to be gone' - and I mean really gone. It is not that 'waste gone', where things end up on a dump nor a 'lost gone' nor 'utopia gone' nor 'impossible gone', where there is still hope. I mean a 'gone gone', like this overwriting or digital gone, where space is made up for something new and after a while nothing is left from what has been there.
It's a bit more gone. It's a bit like unheard and forgotten thoughts. It can be pretty romantic and sad at the same time or just freespace on your harddrive. Its not just wasting something. In that way it is like that 'erased for good' thing everybody wants sometimes and which isn't possible.
