several usbs that were sent to us did not make it all the way and got lost. it is somehow sad to realize that things get lost in the post. at the same time it is a fascinating phenomenom - an artpiece in a digital artspace out there at an unknown location in the snailmail process - waiting to be found and delivered. a time capsule out in space.

THE USB-SHUFFLE-SHOW
How many megabytes does an artpiece consist of? How much “free space“ does a USB-device provide? Is a USB-stick a place of culture? Is it an exhibition space? Are multiple usb-sticks an exhibition - or even an art fair?
These are only some of the questions that this format of the „USB-SHUFFLE-SHOW“ is pointing out. The focus is on exploring wether the digital space in pocket format is usable as a space for arts and culture and if so how this might look like. Aside from trying to rethink the artistic space, the show aims to provoke questions concerning copyrights, curatorial gestures and participation. It is meant to enable a dialogue in which boundaries between the artistic work, the curatorial practice and the role of the beholder is shifted and can be redefined.
The concept of the exhibitions is to present various works of art on various usb-devices. Via an open call, artists from around the world are invited to send in their flash drives, containing one piece of art each. Every USB-stick will be presented in both - as an aesthetical object and as an autonomous space containing art. At a preview-station with a computer and multiple USB ports visitors will have the opportunity to shuffle through the artworks and mix artpieces that have been turned in. These arrangements will then, be projected into the physical space of the event from a presentation-desk. Over the course of the show and through constant interaction with visitors and participants a variety of situations will continuously emerge and change. Through the playful discovery of each device and its artpiece, through continuous connecting and disconnecting of the USB-sticks, every visitor can become curator of a momentary exhibition. furthermore visitors will get the opportunity to mix and copy the contributions and take some of the artpieces along on their own usb-devices. Individual works and arrangements will be bound this way for a short period of time and can be taken along and beyond the exhibition.

DIE USB-SHUFFLE-SHOW
Aus wie vielen Megabytes besteht ein Kunstwerk? Wie viel (Frei-) Raum bietet ein USB-Stick? Ist ein USB-Stick ein Kulturort? Oder vielleicht ein Ausstellungsraum? Sind mehrere USB-Sticks eine Ausstellung? Oder sogar eine Kunstmesse?
Diesen und weiteren Fragen widmet sich das Format "THE-USB-SHUFFLE-SHOW". Es soll untersucht werden, inwieweit sich der digitale Raum im Hosentaschenformat als ein Ort für Kunst und Kultur eignet. Im Fokus der Veranstaltungen stehen neben dem Versuch den künstlerischen Handlungsraum neu zu denken auch Fragen nach Urheberschaft, Einzigartigkeit und Interaktivität des Werkes sowie der kuratorischen Geste.
Konkret werden verschiedene Ausstellungen realisiert, in denen Arbeiten zusammengetragen werden, die sich ausschließlich auf USB-Sticks befinden. Durch einen offenen Aufruf werden Künstlerinnen und Künstler aus der ganzen Welt eingeladen, ohne kuratorische Beschränkung USB-Sticks mit jeweils einer Arbeit einzusenden. Alle eingesandten Sticks werden im Ausstellungsraum sowohl als ästhetisches Objekt wie auch als autonomer Raum samt seines Kunstwerkes präsentiert. Vor Ort steht dafür eine 'Station' bereit, die aus einem Rechner, einem Projektor und einer Vielzahl an USB-Steckplätzen besteht. An dieser 'Station' haben Besucher nun die Gelegenheit aus der Masse der eingesandten Sticks verschiedene Kunstwerke zusammen zu stecken. Was auf der Nutzeroberfläche gesteckt, gemixt und zusammengestellt wird, wird zeitgleich mithilfe des Projektors in den Ausstellungsraum projeziert. Über den Verlauf der Veranstaltung und in Interaktion mit jedem Besucher entstehen dabei sich kontinuierlich verändernde Ausstellungssituationen. Mit dem spielerischen Erkunden der einzelnen Arbeiten, durch fortlaufendes an- und ausklinken der USB-Sticks wird ein jeder Besucher zum Kurator kurzweiliger Präsentationen und immer einzigartiger Konstellationen.
Besucher sollen weiterhin die Möglichkeit haben mithilfe selbst mitgebrachter USB-Sticks Arbeiten zu kopieren und mitnehmen zu können. Einzelne Arbeiten oder Arrangements aus mehreren Werken werden so für eine Zeit fixiert und über den Veranstaltungsort hinausgetragen.
Die Veranstaltung soll in einem spielerischen Miteinander Fragen nach Urheberschaft und Partizipation provozieren. Sie soll es ermöglichen einen Dialog zu eröffnen in dem das künstlerische Werk und die kuratorische Praxis neu gedacht und entdeckt werden können.
